Bukovina 2 Day Tour
Day 1: Cluj - Bistrița - Voroneț - Gura Humorului
After picking you up from your hotel at 9 am, we'll leave Cluj behind and set off to the Bukovina - or Bucovina - region of Romania.
The first stop on our two-day tour will be Bistrița, a picturesque city nestled in the foothills of the Bârgău Mountains. We'll enjoy a short guided tour of the historic medieval town and discover the legends hidden around each corner, before having lunch in a local restaurant for a taste of traditional Romanian cuisine.
With renewed energy, we'll set off to Voroneț to visit one of the most famous of painted churches of Moldavia, which are UNESCO-designated World Heritage Sites. The intense blue colour of the monastery's paintings and the incredibly well-preserved 16th century frescoes will leave you speechless!
We'll then make our way to the village of Moldovița, home to one of the largest and best known museums in Bukovina, dedicated to beautifully painted eggs. After visiting the museum, we'll head to Gura Humorului, where we'll enjoy dinner and spend the night.
Day 2: Humor Monastery - Moldovița - Pojorâta - Cluj
We'll begin our tour on day two with a trip to the Humor Monastery, a 16th century painted church boasting well-preserved frescoes portraying various different scenes from the lives of saints to events in Bukovina's history.
The next stop will be at Moldovița Monastery, where you'll be captivated by the striking blue and gold of its murals, painted by Toma de Suceava in 1537. We'll see depictions of the Siege of Constantinople and the Tree of Jesse on its walls.
We'll then take the Transrarau Road through the Rarau Mountains to enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding landscapes. Along the route, we'll get to see the unique rock formations of this area of the Eastern Carpathians.
Our final stop will be in Pojorâta, where we'll enjoy a delicious lunch of local delicacies before returning to Cluj. You'll be dropped back off at your hotel around 6 pm.
