Yguazú Guarani + Japanese Culture Tour
Yguazú Guarani + Japanese Culture Tour
Meet us at the Shopping del Este Mall, where we'll set off towards Yguazú. This municipality in Alto Paraná, along the eastern side of Paraguay, is home to a large community of Japanese and Guarani peoples. Get ready for a day of cultural immersion!
Our day kicks off with a visit to the Guarani World Experiential Circuit, a significant interpretation centre within the Atlantic Forest of Alto Paraná. Tucked away within the Yguazú Nature Reserve Protected Wildlife Area, this unique site, adjacent to Yguazú Lake, will serve as our gateway to understanding the rich cultural legacy of the Guarani people in this region.
Next, we'll head to the Takuonji Buddhist temple. Here, we can better understand this historic town built by Japanese immigrants and the link between them and Paraguay. For example, why did so many Japanese people arrive in Yguazu in the 1960s? We'll learn all this and more at our second stop as we visit the sanctuary that houses a Buddha statue over 7 meters (22 feet) tall.
Following our exploration, we'll take a brief break for lunch, where you can enjoy a meal at any of the local restaurants in the area. Once recharged, our journey continues to the Immigrant Museum. This fascinating museum showcases a myriad of artefacts, including photos, calculators, typewriters, and sewing machines, providing a captivating glimpse into daily life. The collection is a direct link to Japan, offering insight into the belongings of the initial Japanese immigrants who made their way from La Colmena to Yguazu—often regarded as the cradle of Japanese immigration in Paraguay.
As we wrap up our museum visit, we'll head back to the meeting point in Ciudad del Este, bringing our tour to a close 4 to 5 hours later.
