Itaipu Dam + Tatí Yupí Refuge Tour
Description
On the day of the activity, we'll pick you up at the Shopping del Este shopping centre. From this point in Ciudad del Este, we'll travel to Hernandarias. This important municipality in Alto Paraná, in eastern Paraguay, stands out for its important Guaraní heritage.
To learn about the importance of this local community, we'll first visit the Museo de la Tierra Guaraní. Its permanent exhibition, which includes the largest anthropological and biological collection in Alto Paraná, shows the rich culture of the region's native communities. You'll also discover their main customs and traditions.
After visiting the museum, we'll head to Itaipu Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric dams in the world. At this dam on the Paraná River, located on the border between Paraguay and Brazil, we'll see how renewable energy is produced. We'll also talk about the clean resources of our planet, which allow us to take care of the environment sustainably.
We'll then take a break at a local restaurant where you can get yourself a bite to eat. After lunch, we'll head to the Tatí Yupí Biological Refuge. In this nature reserve located on the banks of the Paraná River, you'll discover the main species of native flora of Paraguay, including cedars, pink trumpet trees and guatambús.
During the visit to the reserve, which covers more than 75,000 hectares of forests and wetlands, we'll see how these areas provide protection and cover to thousands of species, many of them in danger of extinction. For example, this is the case for the Tinamus and other South American birds.
At the end of the tour of the reserve, we'll return to the meeting point in Ciudad del Este, where we're expected to arrive 3 to 4 hours after pickup.
