Free Walking Tour of Cienfuegos
At the selected time, we'll meet near the statue of Benny Moré, where we'll embark on a walking tour of Cienfuegos, a city known as La Perla del Sur, meaning the 'Pearl of the South'.
We'll begin by immersing ourselves in the daily life of the locals as we stroll along the Paseo del Prado and Avenida San Fernando. Along the way, we'll stop at the Artisan Market and Hotel La Unión, the latter of which offers beautiful panoramic views from its rooftop.
Nearby, we'll head to José Martí Park in the heart of the historic center. Here, we'll learn about the founding of Cienfuegos and admire popular landmarks including the Government Palace, the Tomás Terry Theater and the cathedral, excellent examples of the city's colonial architectural heritage. In fact, the Neoclassical architecture of the historic center earned the city a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage List, citing it as the best example of early 19th-century Spanish urban planning.
Next, we'll visit the Benny Moré Cultural Center to enjoy its art and photography exhibits, as well as check out the galleries and workshops of local artists. Then, after seeing the famous Customs building, we'll finish the tour of Cienfuegos at the Muelle Real, a pier where we can sip on a traditional Cuban drink and enjoy the view.
