Explore the mythical ruins of a great Mesoamerican civilization on this day trip to the Cantona archaeological site and the Alchichica Lagoon from Cholula.

Day Trip to Cantona & Alchichica Lagoon

After picking you up at 9 am from your hotel in Cholula, we'll take you to the Cantona archaeological site. After approximately a two hour drive, we'll reach the first destination of our private day trip.

We'll enter what was once a great fortified city and tour its narrow streets, squares, buildings and dozens of ball game courts, trying to imagine what life was like as part of this pre-Columbian civilisation. Did you know that there were more than 300 obsidian workshops in Cantona? Historically, the local artisans made all kinds of products from this material and controlled the trade route of the central highlands.

At the end of our tour of Cantona ruins, we'll take you to Tepeyahualco at 1 pm, where you'll have free time to get some lunch. We'll then set off for one of the most important alkaline, or soda, lakes in Mexico.

In just half an hour, we'll reach the Alchichica Lagoon, a truly spectacular body of water with extraordinary natural structures, known as stromatolites, protruding from it. We'll hear all about its volcanic formation as well as discovering the many local legends surrounding the site.

Finally, we'll head back to Cholula, where you will arrive at your hotel at 5 pm.
