Château de Chinon Tickets
Why Visit the Château de Chinon?
Located on a promontory over the Vienne River, one of the main tributaries of the Loire Valley, the Château de Chinon is a stunning defense structure made up of three bastions.
The fortress has witnessed important milestones in the history of France. It was the last refuge for Henry II, King of England, and its ancient walls welcomed Eleanor of Aquitaine, Charles VII, and Joan of Arc in different periods.
With your ticket to the Château de Chinon, you can visit the three bastions within the complex at your own pace. This ticked also includes a Histopad: a tablet with explanations in English that will show you how the fortress was during its period of grandeur, with various 3D and 360° immersive reconstructions.
Sites Included
With your admission ticket to the Château de Chinon, you can visit the Fort St-Georges, the Château de Milieu, and the Château du Coudray.
The Fort Saint-Georges
The reception building to the fortress stands on the ruins of the Fort Saint-Georges. Its remnants weren't discovered until the 21st century, when archeological excavations conducted between 2003 and 2010 revealed the existence of a 12th-century Plantagenet palace, previously unknown.
The Château du Milieu
The "middle castle" houses the former royal residence. Its origins date back to the 14th century when Louis I, Duke of Anjou ordered them to be built. Among the main elements in this bastion, the Tower of the Treasure stands out, erected by order of Henry II to safeguard the letters and other valuable documents of the royal treasury.
Other notable towers include the Clock Tower, the Argenton Tower, and the Dog Tower. In the castle park, you'll find various war machines, among which a catapult stands out.
The Château du Coudray
This fortress has three towers: the Coudray Tower, the Boissy Tower, and the Moulin Tower. These defensive towers were destined to protect and guard one of the flanks of the Château de Chinon.
