On this tour of the Santa Eulalia mines, we'll discover the minerals and semi-precious stones found in one of the most famous mining deposits in the state of Chihuahua.
Santa Eulalia Mines Tour
At the selected time, we'll pick you up from your hotel and take you to the mining town of Santa Eulalia, located 12 miles from Chihuahua.
After your arrival, we'll reveal the surprising history of this town, which was founded in 1652 by the Spanish captain Diego del Castillo after the discovery of a silver mine. Several decades later other mines were found, a discovery that boosted the economic and demographic development of Santa Eulalia.
We'll also learn many other interesting facts about Santa Eulalia. For example, did you know that the first settlement of the city of Chihuahua was located here? Later, it was decided that the state capital would be established in another area of the valley, giving rise to the current city.
Next, we'll visit one of the legendary mines that made Santa Eulalia known, and inside we'll see the different types of minerals, such as calcites or semi-precious stones. We'll also learn about the stages through which these deposits have been through, and how they experienced a decline in activity in the mid-20th century.
Later, we'll leave the mines and go to the Santa Eulalia viewpoint, from where we'll enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the neighboring city of Chihuahua. Cameras at the ready!
Lastly, we'll end the tour by taking you back to your hotel after three hours of sightseeing.
