Venture into the legendary Valley of Pyramids and discover the huacas, one of the most important pre-Hispanic monuments on Peru's northern coastline, on our Túcume Day Trip from Chiclayo.
Túcume Day Trip
At 2 pm we'll pick you up from your hotel in and head for Túcume, which is only 20 miles (33 kilometres) away from Chiclayo. This area is popularly known as the Valley of the Pyramids and was the capital of the Lambayeque Kingdom in pre-Hispanic times.
In the middle of the desert, 26 adobe pyramids (huacas) stand, which were ancient residential palaces of this period's upper echelons. They later became the Chimu and Inca cultures' centre of political and administrative power.
We'll visit the Túcume Museum and admire its architecture, which echoes ancient 16th-century chapels. Inside, we'll find archaeological remains from the Lambayeque, Chimu and Inca civilizations. We'll also learn about the history of Naylamp, the founder of the Lambayeque culture.
During the tour of Túcume, we'll visit some of its main pyramids: Huaca las Estacas, Huaca el Mirador and Huaca Larga. In addition, we'll visit Huaca Las Balsas. This is one of the most important pre-Hispanic pieces of architecture in the Túcume Archaeological Site.
Once our day trip has come to an end, we'll set off on the return journey to Chiclayo. We'll say our goodbyes after dropping you off at your hotel at 6:30 pm.
