Louise of Lorraine, Catherine de' Medici, Diane de Poitiers... Chenonceau is intimately linked to prominent women of 15th-century France. So much so, in fact, that this beautiful palace is popularly known as the "Château des Dames."
With your ticket to the castle of Chenonceau, you'll be able to explore its beautiful rooms at your leisure. On the first floor, you'll find, among others, the bedroom of the Five Queens and the room of Catherine de' Medici, the latter of which combines decorative elements of both the Italian and French Renaissance.
On the second floor, you can visit the rooms of Louise of Lorraine. This queen consort of France ordered her private chambers to be decorated with macabre elements. The reason? To mourn the death of her husband, King Henry III. You can also stroll through the ballroom that's supported by the castle's characteristic arches, which form a stately bridge across the Cher river.
Your ticket to the Château de Chenonceau also includes a brochure in English with curiosities about the monument. For example, why is the castle called "Chenonceau" if it's located in a municipality called Chenonceaux? The omission of that final X is again due to one of the ladies who lived in the palace.
This ticket will also allow you to visit the extensive gardens of the château at your leisure. Among the highlights of its vast floral areas are the hedge maze and the gardens of Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de' Medici.
