At the scheduled time, we will meet up at the entrance to the Marundeeswarar Temple. This magnificent Hindu sanctuary, dedicated to the deity Shiva, is one of the most important temples of Chennai both due to its elegant architecture and its previous role as a center of healing for people with diseases and a medical learning center.
Our spiritual tour of Chennai then continues when we walk to the Pamban Swamigal temple, erected to honor the 19th-century poet of the same name and who is now considered a Saivite Hindu saint. After learning all about the history of this splendid shrine, we then head to a sanctuary dedicated to the son of Shiva, the Arupadai Veedu Murugan temple.
The next stop is the last of the Hindu temples that we visit, the Ashtalakshmi temple. This is one of the most colorful landmarks in the entire city and is dedicated to the god Lakshmi and the eight ways in which the Hindu tradition is represented.
The visit of Chennai's spiritual side concludes at the Annai Vailankanni sanctuary, a fascinating catholic church with gothic and Indian elements which many Christian pilgrims attend throughout the year.
