What secrets are hidden in the mountains of Morocco? There's only one way to find out! After we meet at the entrance to Hotel Madrid, we'll climb into a minibus and leave Chefchaouen behind for the day. Following the road that leads to the coastal town of Oued Laou, after just 35 minutes' drive we'll reach one of the most enigmatic caves in the Rif Mountains: the cave of Knadel.
Knadel Cave, located in the heart of Talassemtane National Park, has been surrounded by countless myths, rumours and legends over the centuries. Ready to find out which of these stories are true? Once we're kitted out with helmets and the rest of the equipment, we'll embark on our caving adventure in Knadel Cave.
As we explore the cave, we'll learn some basic facts about geology, observing the many stalactites and stalagmites. Do you know how to tell the difference between them? Ghar Knadel, as the cave is known in Arabic, is home to a labyrinthine network of underground galleries where we'll be able to appreciate different rock formations and natural phenomena like the spectacular range of colours of the limestone. From brown and ochre to pink and white, you'll be enchanted by this beautiful rock rainbow.
Your English-speaking guide will also reveal some of the most fascinating legends that surround Knadel Cave. Deep in the belly of the cave, in ancient times... well, that was a long time ago, and these rumours are almost never true... or are they? Find out for yourself on the day of your tour!
At the end of our caving route around Knadel Cave, we'll head back to the minibus for the return journey to Chefchaouen, arriving back about 7 hours after pickup.
