Wine and Olive Oil Tour
After picking you up from your hotel, you'll head for the mountainous Kissamos region to the north of the island. On the way, you'll pass many different vineyards and olive fields and hear about the importance of wine and olive oil production in Crete.
The first stop will be at a family winery in Kissamos, where you'll learn all about the winemaking process that is so venerated by the Cretans. Explore the winery's rooms and enjoy wandering amongst the vines that surround the farm, while the guide points out the different types of grapes used to make wine here.
You'll also visit the winery's art gallery, before tasting a selection of different wines. First, try the local wines: Vidiano and Muscat of Spina; then, compare them to the tastes of international varieties paired with local produce. What a luxury!
Bidding farewell to the winery, you'll head across the beautiful Cretan countryside to an ancient village which houses a well-known olive oil mill. Get first-hand knowledge about the production of this coveted product, and enjoy a tasting of extra virgin olive oil.
For the finishing touch on this fascinating day, you'll visit the oldest olive tree in the world, over 3,000 years old! From here, you'll make your way back to Chania, returning to hotels around 3:30pm.
