On this tour of the Meseta de Bombón you'll travel through the central highlands of Peru visiting its most iconic sites, such as Lake Junín or the colonial villages of San Pedro de Pari and San Juan de Ondores.

Meseta de Bombón Tour

We'll pick you up at 9 am at your accommodation to start this tour of the Meseta de Bombón, a high plain in central Peru located east of the Andes. Within its boundaries are located colonial villages and protected areas such as the Junín National Reserve, with an extension of 53000 hectares. From Cerro de Pasco we'll head towards the reserve, making a stop in the colonial village of Vicco to visit its 17th-century church.

Once in the reserve, we'll go to see Lake Junín, characterised by its rich biodiversity. Did you know that it's home to up to 36 species of birds? On its shores and islets, we'll find flamingos, Puna ibis bird, Andean goose or even grebes, an endemic species in danger of extinction. We'll also visit the village of San Pedro de Pari, located on the shores of the lake, to see its colonial and Andean-style church, one of the oldest in South America!

We'll pass through the village of San Juan de Ondores and stop in the town of Junín. We'll see the Museum of Natural History and stroll around the city to admire its main square, the church of San Ignacio de Loyola, the train station and several chapels. Afterwards, you'll have some free time for lunch.

After the break, we'll leave Junín to visit the historical sanctuary of Chacamarca, where one of the events that marked the history of Peru took place. Do you want to know which one? We'll find out!

We'll continue to the village of Huayre, known as the capital of maca. This small village grows this typical tuber from Junín, which is said to have aphrodisiac properties. After visiting its main square, we'll start our return to Cerro de Pasco. On the way we'll make a stop to see the church of San Pedro de Ninacaca, built of stones and thatch, which surprisingly maintains its original roof.

Finally, we'll arrive in Cerro de Pasco and we'll leave you at your accommodation at 7 pm.
