Cerro de Pasco Tour
Cerro de Pasco Tour
We'll pick you up at 10 am at your accommodation in Cerro de Pasco. Ready to get to know the mining capital of Peru? The origin of this city dates back to the 16th century, when a mining settlement was created adjacent to the region's capital at that time, Villa de Pasco.
We'll start the tour by visiting Chaupimarca square, where the church of San Miguel Arcángel stands. This church, founded in 1827, houses relics from colonial times. Afterwards, we'll continue through Daniel Alcides Carrión square to see the monument dedicated to this scientist, whose research on Carrión's disease or "Peruvian wart virus" was crucial in the fight against this deadly disease in the 19th century.
We'll continue our tour by admiring different buildings representatives of Cerro de Pasco's mining past, such as the Casa de Piedra 'Stone House' or the Villa Minera 'Mining Village'. Then, we'll go to the famous mining site of Cerro de Pasco, but not before passing by other monuments such as the Lourdes Castle and the Pasco Column.
In this open-pit mine, known by the locals as "El Tajo" because it looks like a cut in the earth, we'll learn why Cerro de Pasco was so important for the Peruvian mining industry. Gold, silver, copper, zinc and lead have been mined here since colonial times.
To complete the experience, we'll leave the city to visit Carrión's house, a replica of the home of the so-called "martyr of Peruvian medicine". The residence is located in the doorway of a hospital of the same name.
Finally, we'll return to the city and drop you off at your accommodation at 12 pm.
