Hito Copahue Hike
Hike Details
Ready to be in Argentina and Chile at the same time? In that case, after picking you up from your hotel in Caviahue, we'll begin our journey to Copahue, from where we'll begin our hiking trail to Hito Copahue.
Once here, we'll get ready in Copahue's thermal resort before beginning our trek amongst imposing arid landscapes in the shadow of the Copahue Volcano. We'll start this 6-kilometre (3.7-mile) adventure where we'll pass fossilised lava rocks that come from the crater. As we walk, we'll tell you all about the geological processes that shaped the unique scenery that surrounds us.
We'll continue along the trail that winds between scattered bushes of this semi-desert plain so characteristic of the region. We'll see some streams resulting from the snowmelt, and at some points, if we're lucky, we'll cross snowy areas.
When you least expect it, we'll reach our destination: the boundary marker X-5, better known as Hito Copahue. This point is the natural frontier between Argentina and Chile, surrounded by snowy peaks and a valley of arid hills. You'll be able to place one foot in Argentina and another in Chile! Of course, we'll celebrate our achievement with a comforting warm drink before beginning our return journey.
On our descent, we'll visit Callos Lagoon at the Copahue hot springs to dip our toes into this natural pool's warm water of volcanic origin. We deserve it!
Lastly, after a total of 5 hours, we'll say our goodbyes back at your hotel in Caviahue.
