Day Trip to Las Máquinas
Day Trip Details
Want to experience the power of the Earth? In that case, after picking you up from your hotel in Caviahue, we'll make our way northeast in search of Copahue.
During our travels, we'll make a brief stop at the Mirador de Caviahue, a viewpoint where we'll be able to admire the impressive Copahue Volcano and lake. You'll fall in love with these scenic views!
We'll continue our journey and, after 30 minutes approximately, we'll reach Las Máquinas. Here, we'll wander amongst fumaroles and boiling springs. Did you know that this area is named Las Máquinas (The Machines) because the sounds emitted by the Earth are similar to those of steam engines? It's such an impressive place!
Afterwards, we'll reach the old Bustillo Inn, where we'll see the remains of what was once South America's first geothermal power plant. We'll explore its old geothermal well and discuss its controversial history and sad ending. Any guesses?
We'll then make our way to the village of Copahue to visit Agua de Limón (Lemon Water), a natural hot water spring used for laxative purposes. To end this day trip on a high note, we'll visit Callos Lagoon in Copahue's Thermal Complex. Here, you'll have 45 minutes of free time for you to enjoy dipping your feet into the warm waters of volcanic origin.
Lastly, we'll return to Caviahue and we'll say our goodbyes back at your hotel after a total of 4 hours.
