Tour Details

At the designated time, we'll meet at Piazza dell'Università to begin our guided tour of Catania. Let's get started!

First, we'll explain the city's origins and the natural events that have shaped it, such as the lava flow in 1669 and the disastrous earthquake in 1693 in the Val di Noto.

Afterward, we'll walk toward Piazza del Duomo and the Elephant Fountain. Catania's famous elephant, Liotru, awaits us! What legends are hidden behind this iconic animal? You'll find out on this tour!

We'll also visit the Catania Cathedral and the Town Hall courtyard, both guardians of the past and present memory of Agatha of Sicily, the patron saint of the town. After crossing the Fontana dell'Amenano (Amenano Fountain), you'll immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of the fish market, where you'll stroll through the aromas, colors, and voices of the vendors. If you want, you can take a piece of Sicily home from this market.

From the hustle and bustle to tranquility, we'll leave the market behind and step into the peaceful Via dei Crociferi, Catania's sacred street, a perfect example of the Baroque in Catania. Here, you'll discover how the subtle connections still link us to the Catania that was lost after the 1693 earthquake.

Afterward, we'll return to Piazza dell'Università, strolling among majestic Baroque buildings. The decorated lamp posts will lead us into the fascinating world of Sicilian legends. Our final stop will be at the Roman Amphitheatre of Catania, marking the edge of the medieval city, protected by its walls. Once you see its black volcanic stone, you'll understand why it's so unique!

Finally, we'll say goodbye at this spot after a guided tour of 2 hours and 15 minutes.
