Mount Etna + Volcanic Caves Hiking Tour
Description
At the designated time, we'll meet at Piazza Paolo Borsellino and board a bus to leave Catania behind, Mount Etna awaits us!
After an hour's drive, we'll have reached our destination, the Sapienza Nicolosi refuge. Here, we'll leave you 30 minutes free to explore the Silvestri craters of Etna. Did you know that these volcanic cones were formed during the eruption of 1892?
Afterwards, we'll meet again to start our hiking route on Etna. On our approximately 3.5 hour hike, we'll see the incredible landscapes of the highest volcano in Europe.
During the Etna trekking route, we'll cross forests, see secondary craters, walk through black sand deserts and see high ravines next to ancient lava flows.
The route will take us to the Bove Valley, a gigantic lowland measuring more than 8 kilometers long (5 miles). After admiring this formation, we'll put on our helmets and enter a volcanic cave.
We'll spend half an hour exploring one of the many volcanic tubes of Etna. As we go underground we'll discover truly amazing facts about volcanology.
Finally, we'll leave the cave and return to the bus to go back to Catania. We'll finish the excursion after a total of 6.5-7 hours back at the starting point.
