Castelmezzano & Pietrapertosa Private Tour
At your chosen time, we'll meet in Piazza Emilio Caizzo in Castelmezzano. From here, you'll set off and follow the guide's vehicle through the villages of the Lucanian Dolomites. As you drive, you'll be accompanied by incredible views of the mountains.
Our private tour of Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa will begin in the beautiful medieval streets of Castelmezzano. We'll walk up and down its steep stairs to see the unique sandstone-roofed houses built on a rocky basin.
Next, we'll head to Pietrapertosa. When we get there, we'll see the Church of San Giacomo Maggiore, a medieval building decorated with 17th and 18th-century frescoes, as well as other works by famous local artists such as Pietro Antonio Ferro.
While we're in Pietrapertosa, we'll also pause to observe the remains of the Arabata, an ancient Arab settlement that still has its Saracen name.
The tour will then take us to Pietrapertosa Castle, a Roman fortress that held great importance during the Norman period in the 9th century. The ruins of this fortification are located on top of a large rock, in the highest part of the Basento Valley. From here, we'll gaze out at spectacular views of the Lucanian Dolomites. Afterward, you'll have 2 hours of free time to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant nearby.
We'll then return to the meeting point and say our goodbyes 6 to 8 hours after the start of the tour. See you next time!
