Chankillo Sunset Tour
Chankillo Sunset Tour
At 4 pm, just as the sun begins to set, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Casma to travel to the archaeological site of Chankillo.
Chankillo, which since July 2021 is part of the World Heritage List, is considered the oldest astronomical complex in all of the American continent. On this visit to this site we'll discover its origins, which archaeologists date back to between 257 and 201 BC.
Among the many remains in Chankillo, we'll visit the area of the Thirteen Towers to try to understand the vision of the Cosmos the ancient peoples who inhabited this area of America had. Unlike other sites in the world, such as Stonehenge, which is oriented towards the summer solstice, Chankillo is an astronomical observatory that operated all year round, marking the solstices and equinoxes, as well as the sunrise and sunset of both the sun and the moon.
As we learn about the history of this ancient observatory, we'll enjoy a magical sunset over the Chankillo complex. We'll see a unique sunset from the same place it was viewed in back ancient times
Lastly, after watching the sunset, we'll return to your hotel in Casma, arriving between 6 and 6.30 pm.
