Learn about the history of Peru on this excursion to the archaeological sites of Chankillo and Sechín, during which we'll visit the most important prehistoric sites in the province of Casma.
Options
When you make your reservation you can choose one of the following tours. In both cases, the pickup at 8 am at your hotel in Casma, transportation, an English-speaking guide, entrance fees, as well as the return transfer are all included.
Chankillo & Cerro Sechín Tour (7 hours)
If you choose this option, we'll go first to the archaeological site of Chankillo, where we'll visit the location of the Thirteen Towers, considered the oldest astronomical complex in America. Due to the exceptional cultural value of this enclave, in July 2021 it was included in the list of World Heritage Sites.
During the tour, we'll also admire the ancient fortified temple of Chankillo, which archaeologists believe was built between 257 and 201 B.C. After learning about the history of this sacred place, we'll visit the carob tree forest next to the complex and head to a local restaurant where you'll have an hour for lunch on your own.
After lunch, we'll go to Cerro Sechín to visit its 4,000-year-old archaeological complex. We'll observe its various lithographic engravings in detail and visit the Max Uhle Museum, where we'll see the different pieces found on the site.
Chankillo, Cerro Sechín & Las Aldas Tour (8 hours)
For this route, we'll follow the same itinerary described in the previous section, minus the visit to the carob forest of Chankillo. In addition, after visiting Cerro Sechín and its Max Uhle Museum, we'll move towards the coast to visit the archaeological site of Las Aldas.
At the site of Las Aldas, we'll learn about the origins of this ceremonial, administrative and scientific center, which dates from between 1925 and 1410 BC.
