Cerro Sechín Excursion
Cerro Sechín Excursion
We'll pick you up at 9 am at your hotel in Casma to go to the outskirts of the city, where we'll find the famous archaeological complex of Cerro Sechín.
The site of Sechín is 4,000 years old. This complex consists of a large group of prehistoric buildings: a central one made of mud (the oldest) and another of stone, two others on either side of the central one, as well as a lithic gallery. At the latter, we'll admire a mural formed by more than 300 iconographic representations carved in stone.
During the tour, we'll appreciate the details of these figures, representing different states of mind such as ecstasy, euphoria, and pain. We'll also see an allegory that tries to symbolize the arrogance of the victors and the fatal destiny of the vanquished. Do you know how these works were carved? We'll tell you all about it on the tour!
We'll then continue by visiting the Max Uhle Regional Museum of Casma, which houses an outstanding collection of archaeological pieces found on the site of Cerro Sechín. The exhibition also has a large display of photographs, murals, drawings, and models that will help us to better understand the history behind the site.
Finally, after visiting the museum, we'll return to your hotel in Casma, arriving between 11 and 11:30 am.
