Take this tour to the ancient imperial city of Meknes, and the impressive Roman ruins of Volubilis, two archaeological jewels nestled at the foot of the Atlas Mountains.
Meknes and Volubilis PrivateTrip
We will collect you from your accommodation, or the arranged meeting point, in Casablanca. We then leave this grand city behind and head to the Middle Atlas mountain range. Our destination is the beautiful city of Meknes, located some 200 kilometers away. We will arrive there after a journey of approximately two hours and a half.
When we arrive in what was once the capital of Morocco for more than half a century, we will start to explore enchanting Meknes with a walk around the colorful market brimming with traditional products. Are you daring enough to try a bit of local haggling!
Then we will take you to the beautiful gateway of Bab Mansour, the largest in the country and northern Africa. Did you know that it is considered to be the prettiest of all the imperial cities? You will also encounter the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, who reigned as sultan of Morocco from 1672 up until his death in 1721 and who made Meknes the capital of the Empire.
Later, you will have your own free time to take lunch in a local restaurant, where you can try the local gastronomy. With your stomachs full and strength recharged, we will return to our private vehicle to drive to the 2nd stop on the trip.
We will discover the history that seeps through the stunning Roman city of Volubilis, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997. It was founded by the Carthaginians in the 3rd century BC and was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1755. Here you will tour the ancient ruins and admire the impressive mosaic decoration which has been preserved just as it was originally. This place will leave you speechless!
At the end of the private tour, we will return to Casablanca and we will leave you at the same meeting point from where we departed.
