On this excursion to the Totumo Volcano & the mangroves of Cartagena de Indias, we'll enjoy two of the most spectacular natural enclaves of the Colombian department of Bolivar.

Totumo Volcano & Cartagena Mangroves Tour

We'll pick you up at the indicated time from your hotel in Cartagena de Indias. From there, we'll head straight to the Totumo Volcano, where you'll have the opportunity to take a relaxing bath in the volcano's mud - a unique experience!

What is so special about this place, you ask? The Totumo Volcano is full of mud, considered by the native people to be "healing mud" due to its therapeutic properties. These beneficial properties are due to the mud's composition of water, silica, aluminum, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron, and other minerals.

The moment you step into the crater of the Totumo Volcano, you'll notice the density of its warm thick mud, which helps to tone your skin. The maximum allowed time to stay in the mud is 15 minutes; it's not recommended to stay longer due to the temperature. After the bath, you'll be able to retreat to the mud of the Totumo swamp.

Afterward, we'll have a delicious typical lunch in the area, which will include different regional specialties. After lunch, we'll move to the area of La Boquilla for a tour of the mangroves of Cartagena. During the tour, we'll see what species of plants and animals inhabit this unique natural ecosystem.

The tour will then take us to the Ciénaga de la Virgen, a swamp where we'll go on a canoe ride to check out the different natural mangrove tunnels. Here, we'll also participate in an activity involving an artisanal fishing technique called atarraya and visit an island called Isla del Pescador to enjoy some refreshing coconut water.

Finally, we'll return to Cartagena, where arrival at your hotel is scheduled for 8 hours after pickup.

Pickup

This tour includes pickup at the hotels in the following tourist areas of Cartagena: Castillogrande, Bocagrande, El Laguito, Crespo, Marbella, Morros (north zone), and the historic center.
