At the scheduled time, we'll meet at Plaza Fernández de Madrid to begin this free tour of the outside of Cartagena's Museums. Ready to immerse yourself in the rich history of one of Colombia's most beautiful cities? Let's go!
Throughout the tour, we'll show you the diverse building styles found in the city, and you'll see how the architecture and everyday life of Indigenous pre-Hispanic communities were marked by a before and after with the arrival of the Spanish.
The city was re-organised under an urban plan inspired by the European style of the time, resulting in a unique architectural mix. To see for yourselves, we'll stop in front of the facades of iconic places such as churches and colonial houses with colourful balconies that will leave you utterly enchanted.
All the while, we'll tell you about key figures of local architectural history, such as Luis Felipe Jaspe Franco, an important architect who left his mark on Cartagena de Indias. During the free tour, we'll also discuss the history of pirates while we pass by fortresses that defended the city, as well as the details of republican and modern architecture.
This tour will also take us to some of the most important government buildings and different public spaces that perfectly reflect the evolution of Cartagena's urban design, such as the Plaza de la Aduana, the Plaza de los Almirantes, the Sanctuary of San Pedro Claver, the Plaza de Santo Domingo, the Baluarte La Merced and Santa Catalina, and the Bóvedas.
Lastly, after 2.5 hours, we'll say our goodbyes at our original meeting point. See you next time!
