Gabriel García Márquez Free Tour of Cartagena

We'll begin this Gabriel García Márquez free tour of Cartagena de Indias by meeting at the indicated time in central Cartagena de Indias.

The first stop will be at the University of Cartagena. There we'll visit the cloister of La Merced, where the ashes of Gabriel García Márquez rest. Then we'll go to the Santa Clara Hotel, where the iconic author was inspired to write some of his stories. It's a place full of legends, so it's not surprising that it served as a reference for the 1982 Nobel Prize for Literature.

Next, we'll continue our tour in the neighbourhood of San Diego. Here we'll learn about the famous novels One Hundred Years of Solitude, Love in the Time of Cholera, and Of Love and Other Demons, what really inspired these fascinating tales? As we walk through the streets of Cartagena that influenced Marquez's stories, we'll tell you the anecdotes that marked his life in the city.

Finally, we'll approach the Portal de los Dulces and close by we'll see different stands brimming with books by the Nobel prize-winning author himself.

After a tour of approximately 2.5 hours, we'll conclude the free tour in the centre of Cartagena.
