Cartagena de Indias African Culture Tour
Cartagena de Indias African Culture
At the appointed time we'll meet at the Camellón de los Mártires, also known as the Plaza of Peace. From here we'll begin our tour of Cartagena de Indias to learn all about the legacy of African culture in the city.
First, we'll go to the Plaza de la Proclamación, where we'll see how the African communities of Cartagena developed their own culture. We'll then continue our walk through other parts of the old town, such as the Portal de las Reinas and the Plaza de la Marina, where we'll learn about the history of illustrious Afro-Caribbean characters.
The next stop will be at the San Pedro Claver Square, and then we'll go to Customs House Square to learn about the differences between salsa and champeta dances. Then we'll continue the tour with a workshop on African turbans. You'll even be able to take home your own piece - the perfect souvenir!
At the end of the workshop, we'll go to another lively spot, where we'll try some typical Afro-Caribbean sweets accompanied by coconut water. With our batteries recharged, we'll attend a dance class where you'll learn the steps of the champeta. Time to put on your dancing shoes!
Finally, we'll conclude this three-hour tour of African culture in the historic centre of the city.
