Taormina Excursion
Taormina Excursion
After meeting at 1 pm in Piazza Matteotti in Capo d'Orlando, we'll depart for Taormina. Ready to discover the history and monuments of one of the most emblematic locations in eastern Sicily?
Upon arrival in the city, we'll take a stroll along Corso Umberto, one of Taormina's main thoroughfares, to discover its medieval-style historic center. Overlooking the Ionian Sea, this Sicilian pearl will captivate you with views of the imposing Mount Etna in the background.
During the excursion, you'll visit the Cathedral of Taormina, a temple erected in the 12th century that has undergone several renovations throughout history. Taking a look at its architectural features, we'll discover why it has been dubbed the "fortress cathedral." Next to the church, we'll also see a beautiful 17th-century Baroque fountain topped with the figure of Centauressa, featured in the city's coat of arms.
You'll then have some free time to explore the city at your leisure. We suggest exploring the lush gardens of the Villa Comunale and visiting the famous Greco-Roman theater of Taormina, the city's pride and joy and home to important cultural events such as the famous Taormina Film Fest.
If you'd like to do some shopping instead, you can walk along Corso Umberto, which crosses the entire city from Porta Catania to Porta Messina. You'll be greeted by a delightful series of boutiques and stores with typical products - the perfect place to pick up some souvenirs!
We'll end our excursion in Taormina at 7 pm, when we'll regroup to begin the return trip to Capo d'Orlando.
