Steam Train to Elgin Railway Market
At 7:45 am you'll arrive at the Harbour Bridge Hotel & Suites platform, from where the steam train of the historic Ceres Rail Company, present in South Africa since 1910, departs. Its mission is to preserve the railway culture and heritage by restoring and reusing old locomotives.
On its route, the steam train passes through the landscapes of Cape Town, Sir Lowrs Pass and the Elgin Valley. Along the way, you can enjoy the fantastic experience of riding in a vintage train with wooden covered carriages - it's like stepping back in time! Inside the train you'll also have a cafeteria and books to make the ride even more entertaining.
After three hours, the train will arrive at the Elgin Railway Market, a space with a mixture of Art Deco and Art Nouveau atmosphere where you can stroll among its craft, food and drink stalls. You'll find dishes of all kinds, such as Neapolitan pizzas, hamburgers, vegetarian food, Mexican nachos or aromatic curry. The market bar also offers wines, beer, cider and Elgin craft gin.
At 2:15 pm, the steam train will leave Elgin for a return journey to Cape Town, arriving at 6:15 pm.
