Langa Tour
Description
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Cape Town at the indicated time and drive to Langa township, which can be found in the southeastern region of the South African capital.
After reaching Langa, we'll get to know a few of the locals and learn about their culture. We'll then walk through Langa and learn some words and phrases in Xhosa, the local language. If you take the tour on a Sunday, we can also visit the neighbourhood church and attend a regular prayer service.
We'll then go to the Guga S'thebe Cultural Centre and visit a few art and design exhibitions before being treated to a very special musical demonstration, involving a traditional percussion instrument known as the djembe.
Our next stop will be at what's known as an 'apartheid hostel', which once housed men who migrated to the city while their wives and children worked and lived on farms. We'll learn about the history of apartheid and how it influenced the culture of Langa.
After that, we'll visit a gorgeous artisanal market where you'll have time to roam free and pickup a few one-of-a-kind items, including handmade African jewellery, wooden sculptures and unique clothes. We'll also visit a famous healer, who'll give you some insight into the spirituality and superstitions of the people who live in Langa. If you'd like a special, discounted reading, all you have to do is ask!
Finally, we'll check out a taxi rank to see how people get around in Langa. Local musicians and artists often perform in this area, so, if we're lucky, we might be in for yet another musical treat!
The tour will end after about 4 hours, after which we'll happily take you back to your hotel.
