Chichén Itzá & Ek Balam Day Trip

  • 10 reviews | 84 travellers
It was one of the best activities I've done in Mexico. Gabriel, the guide, was a 10. He explained everything very well and was very kind and always willing to help with anything. The place was beautiful and we arrived before the time when most tourists arrive so we saw everything very well and very calmly. Julian, the driver, was also very kind and drove very well. A great experience.

Chichén Itzá & Ek Balam Day Trip

Having picked you up from your hotel at the designated time, we'll head to the inland part of the Yucatán Peninsula to visit one of Mexico's most famous archaeological sites: Chichén Itzá.

As soon as we arrive, we'll see the incredible Temple of Kukulcán, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. This pyramid has colossal staircases, behind which hundreds of years of history are concealed...

We'll also see the Great Ball Court, the Venus Temple and the Temple of the Warriors flanked by two huge snakes. In addition, at the observatory we'll learn how the Itzaes were guided by the equinoxes, sunsets, solstices and stars when making important decisions.

After this first visit, we'll set off for the Hubiku Cenote. When we arrive, we'll take a dip in this 200-foot (60-metre) deep well of crystal clear water. The Maya once believed that this place was a passage to the underworld... While we're in this idyllic setting, we'll have a delicious Yucatecan lunch. Bon appétit! After lunch, you can visit the tequila museum that's also located here.

Our next stop will be the Mayan city of Ek Balam, which dates back to 300 BC. We'll explore each nook and cranny and see its Entrance Arch, the ceremonial centre, the Oval Palace and the Ballcourt. These structures remain in perfect condition today.

Next, we'll pause in front of the tomb of Ukit Kan Le'k Tok' to admire the frieze on its façade and the amount of detail displayed. We'll also learn all about the history behind its two pyramids.

Following 12 hours of culture and history, we'll return to the starting point and say our goodbyes.
