Canberra Floriade Tour
Description
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at the meeting point and delve into a day full of floral beauty. Let's go!
After about 1 hour, our first stop of the day will be the National Arboretum, where we'll set off on a 1-hour guided tour of these sprawling forests. Boasting over 44,000 rare and endangered trees across a 250-hectare area, the Arboretum is a hub of natural beauty, conservation efforts, scientific research and, of course, is a popular spot among tourists.
Inside the Arboretum, we'll explore the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection, a collaboration between the ACT Government and the Australian Bonsai Community. Officially inaugurated on September 28th, 2008, the collection features 120 exhibits, with around 75 trees on display at any given time. You'll be amazed by its beauty!
After admiring this fascinating exhibition, we'll take a 30-minute drive to Canberra Floriade Festival, where you'll enjoy a 2.5-hour self-guided tour. The festival takes place annually from mid-September to mid-October and has been running since 1988. Showcasing Australia's varied repertoire of flora, it is one of the country's most famous flower festivals.
Each year, around 300,000 bulbs are distributed to local people including schools and other organisations to plant flowers outside their homes, decorating the city with vibrant plants and flowers for the duration of the festival. As you tour the festival, you'll see countless types of flowers of all colours. You'll also have plenty of free time to get yourself a delicious lunch.
After around 2.5 hours, we'll head towards Tulip Top Gardens, for another 30 minutes where we'll see stunning tulips of all colours. Here, you'll have an hour to explore the gardens at your leisure.
Finally, after 7 hours of exploring Canberra's beautiful gardens, we'll bring the tour to an end back at the starting point.
