Palomino Islands Boat Trip

  • 14 reviews | 136 travellers
Although the weather was not very good, they were prepared with blankets. They explained to us the stories of the islands that we were encountering until we reached the Palomino Islands... quite an experience to be able to swim among sea lions.

Palomino Islands Boat Trip

At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the Club Canottieri dock, located in Callao's La Punta Bay. From here, we'll set off on our boat tour around the coast of Callao. After giving you your life jacket, we'll board the boat and set sail through the Peruvian Pacific towards the Palomino Islands.

Before leaving the mainland behind we'll be able to see the Camotal, a part of Callao submerged underwater that can be seen at low tide. As we observe this unique phenomenon, we'll discuss how it came to be.

Afterwards, we'll head out to sea to sail around the archipelago off the coast of Lima. The first island we'll see from the boat will be San Lorenzo Island, which currently houses a naval base and is also the largest island in Peru.

We'll then continue sailing and pass by Frontón Island, where we'll be able to see the remains of an old prison. You should also be able to spot the Cavinzas Islands, which are a haven for seabirds such as pelicans, blue-footed boobies, and red-legged cormorants. We'll also see an ecological area inhabited by different types of birds native to this area such as Peruvian gulls and Humboldt penguins.

Next, we'll arrive at the highlight of the boat tour: the Palomino Islands. Here, nature reigns supreme as the island boasts a population of sea lions that's almost 8,000 strong.

We'll continue sailing the islands for 20-30 minutes to swim with the sea lions. It'll then be time to set course north and return to the meeting point, where our tour will come to an end 4 hours after our departure.

Animal Sightings

The Palomino Islands are one of the best places in Peru to see sea lions, penguins, and other species. However, animals are unpredictable. The sighting of a greater or lesser number of animal species will depend on various factors such as the weather at the time and the different animals' reproduction and breeding seasons.
