Ayacucho Artisan Tour
Ayacucho Artisan Tour
We'll pick you up at 8 am at your hotel in Callao to go to Lurin Valley, one of the districts of the province of Lima.
To get to our destination, we'll cross Pantanos de la Villa, a wetland area home to migratory birds. Then, we'll begin the artisan tour by learning about the demographics of Lurin. Did you know that a large part of its population arrived from the city of Ayacucho fleeing from terrorism in the 80s?
Ayacucho has always been known for its rich and varied expressions of popular art. For this reason, it's considered the capital of Peruvian handicrafts. Immigrants imported these ancestral techniques to the Lurin Valley, which has become another reference point for Ayacucho handicrafts.
We'll visit two traditional pottery workshops, where we'll see the artisans creating typical clay figurines. Afterwards, we'll visit a tapestry workshop to see artisans working on traditional looms and learn how tapestries, embroideries, and belts are made with natural fibers.
Following our visits to the artisan workshops, we'll enjoy a typical Peruvian Creole lunch of two courses and a drink. You can choose between a starter of salad, potatoes, or beans with corn and a main course of rice with chicken, aji de gallina, or beans with meat.
After lunch, we'll return to Callao and drop you off at your hotel at 3:30 pm.
