Puente del Diablo, Chiu Chiu + Ayquina Private Tour
Description
We'll collect you from your hotel in Calama at the scheduled time to begin this tour around Alto del Loa. Ready to enter the Atacama desert?
Once on board our 4x4, we'll make our way towards Santa Margarita, some 21 kilometres (13.04 miles) to the southeast of Calama. Here, we'll see marble quarries and the Loa River, the longest river in Chile.
The next stop will be at Ayquina, a town located around 3000 metres (9842.51 ft.) above sea level in a creek that flows into the Salado River. There, we'll learn about the Likanatay aboriginal community, their ancestral traditions and religious celebrations, like the Virgin of Guadalupe.
At 1:30 pm, we'll arrive at Puente del Diablo, where we'll see a rock fissure that joins the Andes to the desert. An incredibly interesting feature! Our next destination will be the Inka Coya Lagoon, also known as the Lagoon of the Incas. Legend has it that the love story of a princess and the Inca named Atahualpa Yupanqui played out here.
At 3 pm, we'll arrive at San Francisco de Chiu Chiu, where you'll have an hour of free time to grab something to eat. Located within an oasis in the Antofagasta region, this spot forms parts of the Way of the Incas. Did you know that the church here is the oldest in Chile?
We'll bring our tour of Calama to an end after 10 hours together.
