Chacabuco Ghost Town Private Tour

We'll pick you up from your hotel in Calama to kick off our private tour into the Chacabuco ghost town. Get ready to uncover secrets hidden within this abandoned town!

Before arriving at Chacabuco, we'll briefly stop in Pique Chela, a spa built in the Atacama Desert for local families around the end of the 19th century. Did you know that this was considered Bolivian territory back then?

At about noon, we'll arrive at the Pampa Union town, founded in 1911 as a settlement dedicated to salt mining. The town came about thanks to the construction of a sanatorium meant to care for the sick and injured workers from the salt mines.

We'll continue our route, which will take us to the ghost town of Chacabuco. Upon arriving, we'll stroll through the empty streets and discuss the town's history. This town was originally a salt mining town but also a saltpeter mining town, with the Chacabuco Saltpeter Office standing out as one of the biggest in the area.

Among the working population and its family, this village counted up to 5,000 inhabitants. For this reason, the streets were filled with various. As a result, the town built a theater, hotel, school, market, and even a gym and football fields for its residents.

Then, after fully immersing ourselves in the spooky atmosphere of the Chacabuco ghost town, we'll bring you back to your hotel in Calama, arriving 8 hours later.
