Guided Tour of Cajamarca
Guided Tour of Cajamarca
We'll pick you up at your hotel in downtown Cajamarca at the agreed time and head out for this guided tour. Did you know that this city is where the Peruvian Carnival is held each year? It's one of Peru's most celebrated holidays!
The tour will begin at the Plaza de Armas, the place where the Inca chief Atahualpa was captured by the Spaniards. Here we'll see the Santa Catalina cathedral and the San Francisco church, whose unique facades were carved in volcanic rock.
Then, we'll walk a few streets until we reach the monumental complex of Belen, which is made up of the Men's Hospital, the Women's Hospital, and a church. Afterwards, we'll see the Cuarto del Rescate (Rescue Room), some amazing Incan remains preserved in Cajamarca. It was here, according to historians, that the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro kept Atahualpa locked up before condemning him to death. We'll find out what Atahualpa's last days in prison were like!
Continuing on to the viewpoint atop Santa Apolonia hill, we'll have a wonderful view of the city and the Rumi Tiana valley. Here we'll find the famous Silla del Inca, one of the great tourist attractions of the area, as it's said to have been the seat of Atahualpa.
After three and a half hours of fascinating history and sightseeing, we'll return back to your hotel in Cajamarca.
