Su Nuraxi of Barumini Day Trip
What is Su Nuraxi of Barumini?
Su Nuraxi of Barumini, one of the most significant archaeological sites in Sardinia, is the best-preserved and most impressive example of a nuraghe, a type of megalithic tower found on the island.
Dating back to the Bronze Age, between the 16th and 13th centuries BC, the site features a central structure with a main tower surrounded by four smaller towers, all connected by a bastion. Over time, a village developed around the complex, complete with dwellings and facilities for daily life.
Discovered in the 1950s by archaeologist Giovanni Lilliu, Su Nuraxi was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 due to its immense historical and cultural significance.
