With your ticket to Château de Cadillac, you'll embark on a journey through this splendid residence, which boasts a history dating back to the late 16th century. Its construction began during the reign of Henry IV and continued under the rule of Louis XIII.
The castle is a harmonious blend of royal opulence and military character. As you explore, you'll encounter grand fireplaces adorned with intricate decorations, complementing the tapestries and vibrant ceilings.
During your tour of Château de Cadillac, you'll also delve into the history of the Gascony cadets, considered the precursors of the Musketeers. The fortress was repurposed as a women's prison from the 19th century until 1950, and you'll have the opportunity to explore these prison spaces as well.
Opening hours
Ducal Castle of Cadillac welcomes visitors during the following hours:
- October 2 to May 28: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 12:30 pm, and again from 2 pm to 5:30 pm
- May 29 to October 1: Monday to Sunday, from 10 am to 1:15 pm, and again from 2 pm to 6 pm
Please note that the last entry is permitted up to 45 minutes before closing time. On December 24 and 31, the closing time is at 4 pm. Keep in mind that operating hours are flexible and subject to last-minute changes.
Free admission
This archaeological site is free for the following visitors:
- Young people aged 18 to 25 from the European Union
- Children under 18, regardless of nationality
- Unemployed individuals, disabled people, and one accompanying person
- Journalists, architecture students, tourism professionals, military personnel, police, and other state security forces
- Free admission applies to all visitors on the first Sunday of the month between January 1 and March 31 and between November 1 and December 31, as well as the third weekend of September.
