Why Visit Cáceres Co-Cathedral?

Are you ready to journey back to the 13th century to discover the Romanesque origin of the Co-cathedral of Saint Mary? Located in the heart of Cáceres, over time, it was destroyed, and a new church was erected in the late Gothic style between the 16th and 17th centuries. Later, Renaissance elements were added, which you can see in the tower designed by Pedro Ybarra, and in the choir, made by Pedro Marquina in the mid-16th century.

Do you know what the difference is between a Co-cathedral and a Cathedral, and in what year it was given this status? During the tour, you'll discover all the secrets and the most important details of this place of worship, thanks to an audio guide in English. You'll be immersed in the beauty of this temple as you walk under its soaring ceilings and admire the intricate stone carvings.

Among the different elements to contemplate is the famous Black Christ, which is located in the chapel of Los Blázquez. You'll find out why it's so famous and why it's so well known!

What's more, if you want to enjoy incredible panoramic views of the old quarter of Cáceres, you can't miss the Bell Tower. To do so, you'll have to climb up a spiral staircase until you reach the top.
