Caceres: A City of 3 Cultures

We'll kick off this free tour from Plaza de Santa María in Cáceres, diving into the historic center to uncover the rich legacies left behind by Muslims, Jews, and Christians in this UNESCO World Heritage city.

Our route starts with a glimpse at two significant Christian landmarks in Cáceres: the Concatedral de Santa María (Saint Maria Cathedral) and the San Francisco Javier Church. The iconic white towers of the latter are among the most recognizable sights in the city!

As we stroll, we'll encounter various palaces of Cáceres, including the Golfines de Abajo, the Carvajal, and the Toledo-Moctezuma. Fun fact: Did you know one of these was once home to the daughter of the Aztec emperor Moctezuma II? Get ready to be amazed by its intriguing history.

Close by, we'll wander through the streets that once housed the old aljama de Cáceres, the Jewish quarter. As we move forward, we'll explore the town's culinary flavors, delving into the secrets behind dishes like migas, changaina, and savory Iberian ham.

During our free tour of Cáceres, we'll head to the Plaza de San Jorge, one of the city's most picturesque squares. Along the way, we'll also catch sight of the Torres de la Hierba and Bujaco, magnificent structures dating back to the Andalusian era.

Next, our journey will lead us to uncover more of Cáceres' medieval history as we stroll through the Plaza Mayor, embraced by stunning 16th-century arcades. As our adventure nears its end, we'll pass through the iconic Arco de la Estrella, delving into the significant events that unfolded here over the centuries.

Following 2.5 hours of exciting exploration, we'll finish the tour under the Arco de la Estrella.

This free tour doesn't admit groups of more than six people, even if they book the activity separately. If you're traveling in a larger group, we recommend checking out this private tour of Cáceres for an equally exciting experience.
