Military Garrison Tour
Tour Options
When you go to make your reservation for the Bridgetown Military Garrison Tour, you can choose between the following options:
Military Garrison + Museum (2.5 hours)
Meet us in front of the Barbados Museum and Historical Society. Get ready for a tour full of history and fun facts as we kick-start the visit, sharing with you how soldiers lived during the colonial period.
Bridgetown, also known as St. Ann's Garrison, formerly served as headquarters and basecamp for the members of the West Indies Regiment, the former British military authority. Did you know George Washington famously played a pivotal role in a historical event that took place here in 1751? We'll share a detailed story about what happened on these grounds all those years ago as we view the Military Garrison's cannon collection.
Whenever you're ready, we'll pause for a snack break to refuel for the rest of the tour. Then, we'll enter the Barbados Museum and Historical Society to travel into the past and see typical plantations of the time and old maps of previous territories. This museum is home to over 500,000 military artifacts!
- Schedule: This tour takes place on Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 am
Military Garrison + George Washington's House (3.5 hours)
If you want to enhance your historical experience in Bridgetown, we recommend this tour option that includes not only a guided tour of the Military Garrison but also a tour of George Washington's house.
With this tour option, we'll also visit the Garrison Savannah Racetrack, formerly used as a horseracing track in the 19th century. You'll be amazed to learn that imperial military personnel and soldiers used to compete here!
Next up, the highlight of the tour is George Washinton's house. As we traverse the grounds, we'll explore the barracks, hospitals, forts, cannon collections, the prison, and even the court-martial. We'll delve into the rooms where George Washington lived, gaining unique insights into the life of the United States' first president during his time in Barbados.
- Schedule: This tour takes place on Wednesday and Saturday at 1 pm.
