WW2 & Communism Historical Free Tour
Description
Join us on this two-and-a-half-hour free tour to explore the defining chapters influencing Bratislava's identity. Hear poignant narratives related to the Second World War, the National Uprising, the Iron Curtain border, the injustices of communism, and the rich history of Bratislava.
Meet us at the Franciscan Square, also known as the heart of the Slovak capital. We'll walk to the Square of the Slovak National Uprising, or SNP, situated on the edge of the Old Town. This spacious area, which served as the focal point for the struggle for independence, bore witness to some of the most pivotal moments in history.
As we proceed to the front of the last synagogue in Bratislava, a significant emblem of the city's resilience. Here, we'll discuss the Holocaust trials and the persecutions that unfolded during that period.
Then, we'll make our way to the "inverted pyramid," the colloquial name for the radio building. Its striking and unique architecture, representative of the prevailing design during the era of Czechoslovak socialism, can be readily observed from the exterior.
We'll walk through Liberty Square to pause at the Grassalkovich Palace, the President's official residence. And, of course, our tour wouldn't be complete without admiring the UFO Tower, a remarkable structure shaped like a UFO that supports the world's seventh-longest suspension bridge.
