Bordeaux Wine Tour
Bordeaux Wine Tour
Learn about the art of wine tasting as much as the wine itself, as you are taken through the UNESCO World Heritage streets of the centre. Bordeaux region is perhaps the world's most important wine-producing region, with over 50 "Appellation d'origine contrôlées" (protected designation of origin) - the French classification which marks out special local products. The right bank of the Garonne river produces, principally Merlot, while on the left Cabernet Sauvignon is more common - and there are eight "Appellation d'origine contrôlées" that cover the entire Gironde region.
Confusing, right?! To demystify this most special of wines you'll meet your expert guide outside the tram station, and set off on an unforgettable day in which your palate will be put to the test. You'll try three specially chosen wines, each paired with cheese of course. And as your guide will attest, your nose is just as important to the appreciation of good wine as your mouth - in fact, some sommeliers have their noses insured for millions!
Bordeaux wine has a long history, from its introduction by the Romans around 43 AD, to the 12th-century marriage of Henry Plantagenet and Aliénor d’Aquitaine and the exportation to England which was the beginning of its international recognition. And by the end of the day, you'll be just a little more expert in the wines of Bordeaux and their long, storied history - sure to impress at your next dinner party!
