Beautiful architecture, fascinating history and one of the world's most famous wine regions: discover the best of Bordeaux on this guided walking tour.
Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll meet in the centre of Bordeaux to kick off this free walking tour. Ready to explore what is considered one of the wine capitals of the world? Let's go!
One of the tour highlights will be the Bordeaux Cathedral, also known as the Saint-André Cathedral where we'll admire the exterior of this jewel of Gothic art. This place of worship is so important it has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Next to the temple is the Pey Berland Tower, whose history we'll also learn about.
Ever wanted to visit the longest shopping street in Europe? Well, you're in luck! Stretching 1.2 kilometres (0.75 miles) long, Rue Sainte-Catherine will amaze you with all its boutiques, shops and cafés. From here, we'll marvel at the medieval homes that line the streets before heading over to Porte Cailhau and St. Peter's Church, where we'll learn about its link to the French Camino de Santiago.
Along the way, we'll venture over to Place de la Bourse, designed by Jacques Gabriel in the 18th century. Its location on the river and its grandness reflect Bordeaux's trade prosperity back in the day. This square is also home to the iconic Miroir d'Eau, the biggest reflecting pool in the world. The water and mist effects it creates make it an ideal photography spot!
Another high point of the tour will be when we wander down Passage Serget, an elegant covered passageway until we reach Monument aux Girondins, located in Place des Quinconces, one of the biggest squares in Europe. After a total of 2 hours, this free walking tour will then come to an end. See you next time!
