Free Walking Tour of Bordeaux
Description
This free walking tour of Bordeaux starts at the Monument aux Girondins, located in Place des Quinconces, one of the biggest squares in Europe.
Next, we'll check out the facade of the National Opera in Place de la Comédie. From there, we'll go to Place du Chapelet to see the statue of Goya next to the Church of Notre Dame. We'll continue to talk about the Spanish painter's exile in Bordeaux as we pass by the Passage Sarget, the Galerie des Grands Hommes and the Porte Dijeaux.
The tour then heads to the Porte d'Aquitaine and the Bordeaux Cathedral to admire the exterior of this jewel of Gothic art. Next to the temple is the Pey Berland Tower, whose history we'll also learn about. The walk will continue to the shopping avenue of Rue Sainte-Catherine, from which we'll go to Rue du Loup and Rue des Bahutiers to marvel at the medieval homes that line the streets.
The next stops will be at Porte Cailhau and St. Peter's Church, where we'll learn about its link to the French Camino de Santiago. Afterward, we'll head to the Saint-Michel district and take a walk along the banks of the Garonne River to see the Pont de Pierre, or 'Stone Bridge.'
Lastly, we'll admire the iconic Miroir d'eau and, after a two-hour tour, we'll conclude this free tour of Bordeaux at the Place de la Bourse. There we'll recommend different restaurants where you can enjoy the typical French gastronomy on your own.
