Guided Tour of the São Mateus Cave
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the entrance to the São Mateus cave, 3.5 km (2.2 miles) from the center of Bonito.
Before going inside the cave, we'll take a tour of the Museum of Cultural History. In this exhibition, we'll see various objects that belonged to the ancient inhabitants of Bonito, the so-called Kadiwéu. We'll tell you many fascinating fun facts about the indigenous people of Brazil and we'll talk about the native plant and wildlife of the region of Mato Grosso do Sul.
After visiting the museum, we'll start a short walk that will take us to the access point of the São Mateus grotto. The magnitude and beauty of this cave will amaze you from the first moment. We'll walk around admiring its rock formations and discover how they have been shaped over millions of years, and we'll even see a stalagmite that resembles the Tower of Pisa!
Do you know what speleothems are? Do you want to know when the São Mateus cave was discovered? And how big a stalagmite can be? You'll be amazed at this underground world.
After an hour and a half of cave exploring, we'll say our goodbyes back at the starting point.
