Bologna Music Tour
At the scheduled time, we'll meet in Piazza di Porta Ravegnana next to the Garisenda and Asinelli towers. From this iconic point, we'll set off on our guided tour and start delving into the history of music in Bologna.
To begin, we'll head to Piazza Rossini where the Giovanni Battista Martini Conservatory is located. This arts centre is named after one of the most famous musicians of the 18th century, a religious man who went on to teach Christian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
We'll tell you the fascinating story of Mozart's entrance exam to the Philharmonic Orchestra - there are even three different versions of this test! During our tour, we'll find out if Father Martini cheated to get his pupil to pass the exam...
Next, we'll see the outside of symbolic buildings such as the theatre of Bologna, the Palazzo Carrati and the Archiginnasio, which is the seat of the oldest university in the Western world. We'll also discuss the organs in the Basilica of San Petronio and discover why numerous other prestigious composers such as Chet Baker dedicated melodies to Bologna.
Having spent 2 hours sightseeing, we'll end our music tour of Bologna in the Piazza della Mercanzia.
