Archiginnasio Ticket + Tasting at the Quadrilatero Market

  • 36 reviews | 411 travellers
The visit is spectacular. It's a shame you can't see the chapel or the library. You'd expect to see the chapel, but oh well. They give you a tasting of Italian sausages. Another of chocolate and other discounts. It's worth it for the price. The girl who served us, Simona, was very nice. Oh, we saw a small exhibition on pasta that we loved.

Why visit the Archiginnasio of Bologna?

With this ticket to the Palace of the Archiginnasio, you'll learn about the history of one of the most emblematic buildings of Bologna. A must-see in the capital of the Emilia Romagna region!

Built in the 16th century by order of Cardinal Charles Borromeo, the Archiginnasio was the seat of the University of Bologna. For this reason, as soon as you enter the courtyard you'll be struck by the large number of coats of arms painted on its walls, corresponding to the surnames of many of the students who passed through its classrooms. There are more than 7,000 of them!

Thanks to your English audioguide, you'll learn all kinds of curiosities about the building while visiting its cloister and its two most famous rooms: the Anatomical Theater and the Stabat Mater room.

In the Anatomical Theater, you'll see a historic classroom full of wooden sculptures where medicine was studied. Did you know that one of the pioneers of plastic surgery taught here? You'll learn more about this person's life when you come across the statue of Bolognese Gaspare Tagliacozzi.

From a small passageway in the Sala dello Stabat Mater, you'll also be able to see the Archiginnasio Municipal Library, which houses more than 35,000 copies of ancient books.

Tasting at the Quadrilatero Market

With your entrance to the Archiginnasio, you'll also be able to enjoy a tasting at the Quadrilateral, one of the most famous markets in Bologna. Before entering the museum, we'll give you two snack tickets that you can use at any time during the day or for the next six days.

Each voucher includes a drink and a typical tapa, one of crescenza cheese with mortadella and the other of meatballs Bolognese or tigellone with ragu, depending on your preference. You can enjoy this snack at any of the stalls of the Quadrilateral Market.
