On our day trip to the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, we'll discover one of the most fascinating underground monuments in the world. You'll also explore the charming town of Zipaquirá!
Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá Day Trip
After picking you up from your chosen meeting point in Bogotá, we'll set off northbound on the journey to the municipality of Zipaquirá. Our drive will take between 1 hour 30 minutes and 2 hours.
When we get there, you'll have 2 hours of free time in the Salt Cathedral. This religious temple was discovered 590 feet (180 metres) underground, making it one of its kind. Inside, you'll be able to admire the various sculptures and crosses made from salt as well as the marble elements that complete the collection. This truly is a unique church!
As you explore the Salt Cathedral, with a temperature that never exceeds 15 degrees Celcius, you'll also discover some of its most notable features such as the choir, the Stations of the Cross and the water mirrors, plus you'll find out the history of how this temple was built. In 2007, it was named the first of the Seven Wonders of Colombia due to its incredible adaptation to the geology of the area.
Next, you'll have 1 hour of free time in Zipaquirá to get some lunch and stroll around its old quarter. You'll be able to see the Santísima Trinidad Cathedral (more traditionally built from stone and not salt) and its picturesque colonial-style buildings.
We'll then return to Bogotá and drop you off.
