Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá Day Trip

  • 777 reviews | 7,778 travellers
We took the tour with Bogotá City Bus to visit the Zipaquirá Salt Mines, from the beginning, the service was very organized and punctual. The guide was excellent: very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to answer all our questions. He gave us interesting details both during the bus tour and during the visit to the mine. The lunch spot was a great choice, with delicious options and a pleasant atmosphere. Also, the guided tour of the center was very good.

Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá Day Trip

After picking you up from your chosen meeting point in Bogotá, we'll set off northbound on the journey to the municipality of Zipaquirá. Our drive will take between 1 hour 30 minutes and 2 hours.

When we get there, you'll have 2 hours of free time in the Salt Cathedral. This religious temple was discovered 590 feet (180 metres) underground, making it one of its kind. Inside, you'll be able to admire the various sculptures and crosses made from salt as well as the marble elements that complete the collection. This truly is a unique church!

As you explore the Salt Cathedral, with a temperature that never exceeds 15 degrees Celcius, you'll also discover some of its most notable features such as the choir, the Stations of the Cross and the water mirrors, plus you'll find out the history of how this temple was built. In 2007, it was named the first of the Seven Wonders of Colombia due to its incredible adaptation to the geology of the area.

Next, you'll have 1 hour of free time in Zipaquirá to get some lunch and stroll around its old quarter. You'll be able to see the Santísima Trinidad Cathedral (more traditionally built from stone and not salt) and its picturesque colonial-style buildings.

We'll then return to Bogotá and drop you off.
